Procedure for Implementation of Case Based Learning
There were 8 different forms of case based learning described previously. Each of the forms vary slightly in how they are implemented, although they do share some common implementation steps. Some of the procedures for implementation may include:
The main procedures that are shared among the different methods include: participation by all members and the case requiring structure by way of the facilitator/educator being prepared.
- Placing the participants in roles that mimic real life situations
- Providing the participants with background information for the case beforehand in order to prepare (pre-reading, prerequisite classes)
- Providing at least a few details of the situation/idea at hand
- Allowing the participants to work through the case as if it were actually happening
- Ideas can be performed hands on or as a discussion
- Having objectives and being structured
- In order for participants to develop the learning goals of using the method, participation much be achieved
- Participants assigned roles to perform or argue for/against
